| Flat Type Tensile Grips |
| Revised: Feb. 3, 2002 |
| The FG10KN flat tensile grips are designed with a fixed gripping surface and a moveable gripping surface which is adjusted by using a handle type of loading knob. The two surfaces are flat faced and remain perpendicular to the specimen surface. The gripping force remains constant while the specimen undergoes tensile loading and does not increase during loading as happens in the wedge type of loading grips. Figure 1 shows two views of the overall design of the grips. These grips feature a solid aluminum alloy construction for strong and light weight design. The gripping surfaces are available in both a coarse cut and a fine cut depending upon the specimen to be tested. |
| Figure 2 shows a view of the FG10KN grips with the optional self aligning fixture which consists of a steel clevis and spherical rod end assembly. The self aligning fixture is recommended for applications in which metal specimens will be tested. The fixture minimizes non-axial loading effects due to slight grip misalignment in specimen misalignment in the grips. |
| The FG10KN grips are rated for a maximum loading capacity of 10 kN (2,200 lb). The gripping surface area is 3.81 cm x 3.81 cm (1.5 in x 1.5 in). The maximum spacing between gripping surfaces is 7.5 mm (0.3 in). The outside dimensions of the grips are as follows: |
| Length: 15.2 cm (6.0 in) |
| Height: 10.2 cm (4.0 in) |
| Depth: 6.4 cm (2.5 in) |
